I am an artist inspired by land, sea, and sky and the flora and fauna that inhabit those realms. - April Philips, artist

My art works are explorations of the many ecological layers and phenomena within the natural world along with the humanistic and spiritual connections that vibrate within. Layers of geology, ecology, archeology, time, memories, dreams, visions, transformations, ephemera, mists, fluids, and solids overlaid to create unique patinas and vistas. Nature and human connections reimagined. I concentrate with water based mediums but also utilize pencil, inks, pastel, collage and other mixed media materials depending on where inspiration and roads of discovery may lead.

Nature is:  Dynamic. Complex. Beautiful. Mysterious. Fragile. Resilient. Muse.

Recently I turned the page in my career as a landscape architect and founder of April Philips Design Works to explore a new creative chapter of life through my art, writing and traveling. My firm’s legacy landscape architecture design work can still be viewed at www.APDW.com for a short time period. I remain an advocate and champion of nature-based design.

I have made art since I was a young girl growing up in New Orleans, so this is a full circle moment to fully embrace the artist within. I am excited to see what flavors of art come from this new path of discovery that has opened with this new chapter of a more fully integrative creative life.
